For climate action

From more frequent flooding in Shropshire to wildfires in Australia, the climate emergency is already with us – and is going to get a lot worse. Our leaders have failed to take adequate action so far. The Green Party has a costed, detailed Green New Deal that will get us to net zero carbon emissions by 2030. I have published a Shropshire Green New Deal that gives a direction for our county. All other parties have policies like airport expansion and road building that will make things worse. Only the Green Party will put climate action front and centre.

For a Peoples Vote on Brexit

Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal is a disaster for the environment and for workers rights. I’ve met with local businesses, from farming to wine importers, who rely on frictionless trade with the EU. Our communities have benefited from freedom of movement. I am proud to be in a party that stands up for people’s right to live, love and work across borders. The best deal is to remain. The Green Party will continue to fight for a final say Peoples Vote.

For a fairer society

Our society is not fair to the young, to the less well off, to the sick. Our Green New Deal will bring back worthwhile fulfilling jobs. The Green Party will restore free university education. We will introduce a Basic Income for all and will fund the NHS properly.

For two proper local hospitals

Our hospitals are in crisis because of a lack of funds. The solution is not to cut back on what is provided. We have an ageing population and our towns are growing. It’s crazy to downgrade one of our local hospitals – whether it’s Shrewsbury or Telford. We will continue to demand the scrapping of the 'Future Fit' plan to reduce emergency cover in Telford, and for proper local NHS funding.

No North West Road

Congestion and air pollution in our town must be solved by reducing car use. New roads have a history of increasing traffic. On the council’s own figures many streets in town will get busier even after the road is built. The solution is to invest in walking, cycling, e-cycling and quality regular bus services, so people can choose to leave the car at home. We will fight to stop the North West Road which will devastate wildlife and bring noise misery to many homes.
