Green Victory in Oswestry South

12 February 2016

Green Party supporters were celebrating on 4 February as they won their first seat on Shropshire Council. In a by election caused by the sudden resignation of former Council leader Keith Barrow, Oswestry Town Councillor Duncan Kerr swept to victory to take Oswestry South with 49% of the vote.

Duncan Kerr has represented Castle ward on Oswestry Town Council since 2013. An active campaigner Duncan Kerr stood against Keith Barrow in the Shropshire Council election last time when he was a close runner up.

Duncan Kerr said ‘I would like to thank the people of south Oswestry for their support, and for recognising that an independent voice is needed at Shirehall. Shropshire faces a very uncertain future with threats to all services, from libraries and parks to care for the elderly and for the young. From my own experience of local government I know there is an alternative to dismantling society. I shall be putting forward policy suggestions to rebuild the economy and vitality of our great town.’
