Voters in Oswestry’s Cambrian Ward will get the chance to elect a new councillor after local Green Party representatives intervened to ensure a by-election takes place. The vacancy arose when a local councillor stood down last month.
Green Party councillor Nikki Hughes said, ‘No one likes extra elections but we think it important that people in the Cambrian area are fully represented on Oswestry Town Council. We ‘moved the writ’ to make sure the by-election takes place soon.’
The local Green Party, who with five councillors are currently the second largest group on the council, have selected former market trader and campaigner Rosie Radford as their candidate. Rosie, who now runs her own town centre cheese deli business, said she hopes to get the chance of joining colleagues to make an active difference for the people of Oswestry.
Shropshire Council’s legal and democratic services will now publish a date for the election to take place.
