Shropshire hospitals’ proposal to close one A&E unit, plus changes in non-emergency care, will come under scrutiny at a public meeting to be held in Shrewsbury on 8th July. The event is being hosted by Shropshire Green Party and will feature speakers from Shropshire Defend Our NHS, Jigsaw Family Group, and Shropshire People’s Assembly Against Austerity. One of the speakers will be community campaigner Julia Evans who said, ‘The event will explain the hospital trusts’ Future Fit proposals and will provide an opportunity for us all to debate key health issues that affect people’.
Councillor Julian Dean, who will chair the session, said, ‘After years of delay, during which time the plans have actually got worse, the two hospitals have now published their final proposals for Shropshire, Telford and mid Wales. They are holding expensive events to promote their viewpoint. We think a wider range of expertise should be made available so, on a much tinier budget, the Green Party is hosting several community events where people can find out alternative viewpoints before they complete the trusts’ consultation questionnaire.’
Everyone is welcome to the event which takes place in the Radbrook Community Centre, Calverton Way, off Bank Farm Road, Shrewsbury SY3 6DJ on Sunday 8th July, starting at 2pm. For those who can’t make it another information event will take place at the Darwin Community Centre, Frankwell, Shrewsbury at 7pm on 12 July. Further information about them is available at shrewsburynorthshropshire.greenparty.org.uk/events.
