New train franchise off to a dreadful start

20 October 2018

John Whitelegg This is a copy of an open letter sent to the press from John Whitelegg.

"We now have a new train company running services in Wales and the Borders and the first day of Transport for Wales/Keolis-Amey was dreadful.

"On Sunday 14th October 2018, the new operator put on a 2 carriage very old train to operate the 1424 from Birmingham New St to Shrewsbury.  The train was grossly overcrowded to an extent that would be illegal for live animal transport.  Every aisle, every corner and every door area was packed.  I had to stand all the way to Wellington in a packed door area (there were 8 of us in the door area including 2 small children that had difficulty in standing as the train accelerated and decelerated).  This was an appalling service and there is no excuse for not running 4 carriages.

"After 15 years of too often truly dreadful Arriva Trains Wales are we now in for truly dreadful Transport for Wales/Keolis-Amey or dare we hope for something better ? We in the Green Party in Shropshire will  certainly be working for a high quality rail service for our region!"
